Watson Glaser Critical Thinking Appraisal

What is Watson Glaser?

Watson Glaser Critical Thinking Appraisal measures critical thinking ability in individuals.  The test identifies the extent to which an individual is intellectually capable of holding a senior role.  It is an assessment tool that is widely used for selection or development, particularly at graduate and management level.  Unlike 16PF5 Psychometric testing, Watson Glaser asks questions to which there are distinct right and wrong answers to produce norm-based scores of ability.  This score can be interpreted by DrummondHR and used to advise of an applicant’s suitability for a specific role or to indicate areas for development in the individual.

How Does It Work?

Watson Glaser Critical Thinking Appraisal uses a combination of problems, statements, arguments and interpretations to measure 5 key aspects of critical thinking:

  • Drawing inferences from fact
  • Recognising assumptions implied by a statement
  • Evaluation of arguments
  • Deductive reasoning
  • Reasoning logically by interpretation

Candidates are given propositions relating to statements and are asked to recognise the above factors and evaluate the validity of the text.  Both neutral and provocative passages are used in order to assess an individual’s ability to think objectively without being influenced by attitudes, opinions and biases.

The content of the test covers a wide range of ability levels, population groups and sectors.

Why Use Watson Glaser?
